Carla. 20s. Canada. Amateur everything. Aspiring protagonist. I love people and art. I am not at all typical, so if randomness is not a part of your world, you have been warned. This blog mostly features picspams for TV shows, movies and celebrities that I like, but I do tend to toss in beautiful photographs, touching quotes and the occasional lulz.
MAKE YOURSELF COUNT WITH GETGLUE!
As a Fringe fan without a Nielsen box, we all feel a bit like phantom viewers, don’t we? I know I do. Every time ratings are announced I don’t know whether to laugh at the inaccuracy (Nielsen homes are .01% of the true viewing community) or cry because it’s still what “counts” for networks these days. You’d think in the year 2011 there’d be a better way to gauge how many people truly watch a show and make it count for a network. And while we all struggle to make our views be official through streaming on the official site, Hulu, buying on iTunes, etc. the networks like to know who watches live on the television above all other things. Because in the end advertising is what pays for shows and the more viewers there are the more consumers there are.
So how do we make ourselves “count” as best we can? The next best thing out there right now is GetGlue. It’s a site where you “check in” to whatever you’re currently doing/watching. It’s even more fun when you check in live, because you can sometimes even get stickers (that you can get printed and sent to you anywhere in the world!). This year Fringe has episode stickers. Every time you check in live during a new episode, you get a sticker. A little thank you reward for watching live, you can put it. Networks have been teaming up with the site more and more with shows for this incentive and Fringe is among them. We can continue to be frustrated at coming up with a way to let ourselves be taken into account more but this is something we can do now. And it’s better than nothing.
